Philadelphia International Airport

Philadelphia International Airport, the 22nd largest airport in North America, welcomes nearly 33 million travelers annually. This is the primary international airport serving southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia metropolitan region.

Know Before You Go

American Airlines uses the airport as a hub, while Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines all have significant presences there. It serves both local and foreign destinations and has seven terminals, 126 gates, and four runways. There is a shuttle available, but as each terminal is connected, you can also choose to walk.

Since 2000, the Philadelphia International Airport has invested more than $2 billion in major projects. Although the airport is always undergoing renovations, you may view some of the most recent project updates.

Airport Parking

Six parking garages, one Economy Lot, and the AAdvantage Aviator Lot, which provides discounted parking rates only for American Airlines members with a specific level of status, are all located at the Philadelphia International Airport.

Compared to the airport's garages, the Economy Lot is more affordable and farther from the terminals, although a free shuttle is provided that runs continuously. You can sit in the Cellphone Waiting Lot for free until you receive a call or text from your passenger if you are only picking someone up from the airport and don't intend to get out of your car.

There are also a number of private companies, like Winner Parking or Pacifico Airport Valet, that offer valet services if you'd rather not deal with the shuttle buses at the airport.

Driving Directions

I-95, I-76, and Route 291 make it easy to reach Philadelphia International Airport from the city centre. Take Exit 3 to the Walt Whitman Bridge and then follow the signs to the airport if you're approaching from the New Jersey Turnpike. Take Route 476 to I-95 North from the Pennsylvania Turnpike until you reach the airport exit.

Public Transportation and Taxis

At Zone 5 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway, taxi services are available. Taxi fares are calculated per trip rather than per passenger. On the Commercial Transportation Roadway, Zone 6 offers sedan and limousine services, while Zone 7 offers shared-ride van services.

Take the SEPTA Airport Regional, which has a pedestrian walkway from the terminal to the platform, to get to Downtown Philadelphia via public transit. Every 30 minutes, trains leave towards Eastwick, University City, 30th Street Station, Suburban Station, and Jefferson, stopping at Terminals E, C/D, and A-East along the way (Market East).

Bus lines 37 and 108 and 115 may also be used to go to and from South Philadelphia, 69th Street Transportation Center, and Suburban Square, respectively.

Where to Eat and Drink

If you're hungry when you get at PHL, there are plenty of food options available. You may locate eateries like Baba Bar and Noobar for a sit-down lunch. Additionally, you may sample some brews at Yards Brewing Company or the Germantown Biergarten, two local favorites. Visit the airport outpost of Philadelphia's finest Midwestern eateries, Bud & Marilyns, for something unique. You may have a drink at Bar Symon at Terminal D.

Where to Shop

PHL features many Hudson News stores, as well as Duty-Free shops located in Terminals A and D, as well as businesses for buying products from Philadelphia sports teams and souvenirs. These things may include travel pillows, gum, and snacks.

How to Spend Your Layover

A stopover of seven hours or more gives you just enough time to leave the airport and explore some of Philadelphia's attractions. You may go to the city's core on the SEPTA Airline train and then visit some of the area's most well-known sights on foot.

You may stop at the Liberty Bell, the Museum of the American Revolution, and still have time to race up the 72 steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, colloquially known as 'The Rocky Steps,' all of which are within easy walking distance of the train station. You'll need to bring your carry-on with you because there aren't any facilities for storing bags at the airport.

The Philadelphia Airport Marriott or the Extended Stay America Philadelphia Airport are two adjacent airports where you could take a cab if you had an overnight stopover as there are no hotels inside the airport itself.

Airport Lounges

The Centurion Lounge and Delta Sky Club are two lounges at the Philadelphia Airport that are exclusively accessible to members. However, you might be able to purchase a day pass into one of those lounges if you are travelling with American Airlines or United. In Terminal A, next to Gate A6, there is a free USO Lounge for active-duty and retired soldiers as well as their travelling partners.

Do you simply desire quiet? Between terminals A and B, there are minute rooms accessible. These private apartments are available for hourly rental, making them ideal for cramming in a brief snooze before your trip.

Wi-Fi and Charging Stations

There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the airport, and there are charging stations for your devices at the gates. You might also go to the food court in Terminal B, which has outlets at each seat and tables with iPads for ordering meals.

Airport Tips and Tidbits
  • Art at the Airport is one of the unique program provided by Philadelphia International Airport. There are several changing exhibits as part of the art program.
  • A cooperation effort between Autism Inclusion Resources LLC, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and participating airlines aims to make flying through Philadelphia International Airport more familiar and pleasant for families with autistic children.
  • Every airport has a pet relief area, commonly known as a 'Pet Port.'
  • Use the Wi-Fi hotspot at Terminals D and E to access the airport's Virtual Library. You may easily access e-books and podcasts provided by the Free Library of Philadelphia by connecting to the free Wi-Fi signal.
