Miami, Florida
The Sunshine State Miami is a popular destination for both Americans and foreigners. It’s breezy and beautiful and a crossroad of Latin America and Caribbean cultures.
The area around Flagler Street, Biscayne Boulevard, is bustling with shops, restaurants, and nightclubs in Downtown Miami. The Bayside Marketplace is located in this area of Central Miami. South of downtown is also a Cuban neighbourhood and two of Miami’s most cheery neighborhoods, Coral Gables or Coconut Grove. Coral Gables is known for its iconic Biltmore Hotel, a 1920s landmark. It has a Mediterranean feel. Coconut Grove was once a popular hangout for artists, but has been transformed into a shopping and nightlife hub.
The barrier island of Miami Beach, connected to Miami Beach by causeways that cross Biscayne Bay is where Miami got its reputation as a tourist destination. These miles of beaches have seen a lot of changes, from being an elite playground in 1940s and 1950s, to urban decay in 1970s, to becoming the New Riviera in the 1990s.
The South Beach neighborhood is where Miami Beach's most recent revival began. Preservationists began to push for the preservation of the Art Deco buildings in this area. These buildings were remnants from an earlier heyday. Things started to improve after 1979 saw the establishment of an official historic district.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Miami is any time between March to May. You'll find daily temperatures in the 70s during these months for non-peak rates. While the rest of the country is still freezing, Miami will be at its best. Tourists flock to Miami Beach for its tropical climate year round and the party atmosphere. Special events bring more people to the city and increase hotel rates. Winter is high season for Miami. To avoid the crush of visitors, go during the shoulder season, from February to April. September is the most common month for hurricanes making landfall.
Pro Tip
While you are in Miami, you should be sure to visit the Cuban neighborhood, Little Havana. Little Havana is the perfect place to experience Cuban culture.
Airport
Book our flight tickets and land at Miami International Airport. It's also known as MIA and historically as Wilcox Field, is the primary airport serving the Miami area, Florida, United States. It is located 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Downtown Miami, in metropolitan Miami.
Best Things to Do
Visit the iconic Miami Beach
Mile after mile of sparkling waters, golden sands, tanned tourists, celebrity-studded hotels, nonstop nightlife - the images are glamorous, but they are surpassed only by the reality. Miami Beach — from South Beach to North Beach — is legendary as a resort destination, setting the gold standard for hospitality, but constantly renewing and renovating to catch the latest waves of visitor expectations.
Explore Jungle Island
Jungle Island, a favorite South Florida landmark, is an intimate zoological park located in the heart of Miami, between Downtown Miami and South Beach. Building upon a rich tradition that began in 1936, Jungle Island is home to some of the world's rarest and most exotic animals. Park guests enjoy engaging animal shows and informative exhibits while strolling by streams and waterfalls under a lush canopy of tropical trees.
Wander the Art Deco District
Art Deco Miami is an architectural wonder. The city has the highest concentration of Art Deco buildings in the world, and their preservation has saved the South Beach skyline from becoming a canyon of condos. Amazingly, these buildings were almost destroyed by developers in the early 1970s. Their survival is due to a handful of activists who, in 1976, founded the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL).
Bayside Marketplace
Situated in the heart of Downtown Miami at the foot of the Miamarina, overlooking Biscayne Bay, Bayside Marketplace is a shopping, dining and entertainment Mecca that has been going strong for more than three decades. Home to nearly 70 shops and 30 restaurants, it’s also the embarkation point for several boat tours. It also features the Sky Views Miami observation wheel, presiding over it all at 180 feet above Downtown Miami’s glittering skyline.
Stroll through The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Named after one of the most captivating shorelines on the Spanish coast, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens captures jaw-dropping European extravagance in an enchanting American context. The home’s builder, James Deering, was a prolific industrialist who explored uncharted territory in the creation of this ambitious home, building his Renaissance-inspired estate at the heart of Miami’s tropical hardwood hammock.
