New York City, New York
The Gotham City or The Big Apple, New York City tops the list of being one of the world's most visited cities for all the right reasons. It's unlikely that there would be a list of the top cities in America or around the globe without it.
There are many things to do in the area, so it doesn't matter if you are there for one weekend or for a whole month.
Even if you're only staying for a short time, it is worth visiting Times Square at least once. It is a symbol of New York City, regardless of whether you like it or it not. With its tall billboards and chintzy souvenir shops, and the thronging masses of people, it is a must-see.
The Empire State Building is another iconic symbol; undoubtedly the most iconic skyscraper in the world. You should visit the top to enjoy panoramic views of the city, and plan your next adventure.
Finally, you should visit the Statue of Liberty. It was designated a National Monument back in 1924. The Statue of Liberty is located in a park-like setting. It offers breathtaking views from the top of one of its platforms. You can also reach the Statue of Liberty by ferry. It is an amazing way to see NYC from another perspective.
You will find amazing tips and tricks to make your New York City trip unforgettable, see 50 Best New York City Tips for First-Time Visitors.
Best Time to Visit
When the weather is good and people are less crowded, you should visit between April- June and September-October. Avoid July and August. It is extremely hot and humid during the day. Even the nights are not much cooler. It also gets colder in winter. Although snow can be beautiful when it falls, it quickly turns to muddy slush.
Pro Tip
Use public transportation. It's affordable and extensive. You should not rent a car, as parking can be expensive and difficult to find. You can find many ride-sharing and taxi services, but you should be aware of traffic.
Explore the city from outside of Midtown. There's not much to do in Midtown except for Times Square and Broadway shows. The prices are much higher than in other parts of the city. For a more affordable and better meal, you can walk a few blocks west or east of midtown.
Airport
Three international airports serve New York City: John F Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. Each offers shuttle, bus, and ride-share services to NYC.
