Miami International Airport

One of the busiest airports in the world, Miami International Airport (MIA) is a major hub for international flights connecting the United States with Latin America and the Caribbean, located 8 miles northwest of Downtown Miami. It was the 40th busiest airport in the world in 2018 with more than 45 million people passing through.

Know Before You Go

With three-level north, middle, and south terminal sections, MIA is fashioned like a horseshoe. Go to Level 1 for luggage claim and arrivals. Head to Level 2 for departures, check-in, and ticketing.

Level 3 is for swift and effective airport navigation: The MIA Mover, the airport's free monorail system, will take you to the Intermodal Center, where car rental companies and a railway station are located. You may also utilize moving walkways to go between terminals. The Skytrain, which has stops at four different positions throughout the mile-long concourse, is also on level 3, above Concourse D. It's a good idea to check your flight before you go to the airport because of the city's erratic weather. If there are thunderstorms (or rain/snowstorms) in your route, there may also be flight delays, even if a little rain may not make a difference.

Parking at Miami International Airport

The Flamingo Garage, which services Central Terminals F and G and South Terminals H and J and Dolphin Garage both provide long-term parking for up to 60 days, serves North Terminals D and E. The second level of each garage has valet parking, however you may only leave your car there for a maximum of 20 days.

You can wait at the Cell Phone Waiting Lot, which is free for private vehicles to use when anticipating a call or text message from their passenger, when picking someone up from the airport.

Directions for Travel

Take FL-836 West out of downtown Miami, then merge onto NW 14th Street and follow the ramp to the airport. Take I-195 West from North Beach, keep going on FL-112, and then take the exit toward the Miami Airport using the left two lanes.

Taxis and Public Transportation

There are taxi stands outside the baggage claim level of Miami International Airport if you need a cab to drive you to your hotel or another area in Miami. Additionally, ride-hailing and shuttle services are available. You may order a trip by using the ride-hailing service app, which will provide you with information on the specified pick-up area.

Take the Metrorail, which leaves every 30 minutes, to go to Miami by public transit. The Orange Line will take you through Downtown Miami, Coconut Grove, and Dadeland stations, but if you want to go north to Northside, Hialeah, or Palmetto stations, you must change to the Green Line at Earlington Heights Stations.

The Miami Beach buses cost $2.25 one way and operate daily from 6 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. between Miami Airport Metrorail station and Miami Beach on 41st street.

Miami's public transit system provides service to Miami International Airport. The Miami Central Station, the city's transportation centre, is where you can find Metrobus, Metrorail, and Tri-Rail airport connections.

Restaurants and Bars

The dining options at the Miami airport range from burgers to ceviche and empanadas. There are options for sit-down dinners as well as pubs for beer or drinks and quick grab-and-go meals. For those in search of one final Miami comfort cuisine, there is no shortage of Cuban food available here (Bongo's, La Carreta, Cafe Versailles, Estefan Kitchen Express). Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Illy, Juan Valdez Cafe, and McDonald's are a few places to get coffee.

The Counter for a juicy burger, Beaudevin, a wine bar with great and nutritious food options, and Spring Chicken, a restaurant with a Southern flair that serves fried chicken sandwiches and tomato salad with pig cracklings and mozzarella, are some of the best places to eat and drink.

Shopping

MIA features shops like Coach, TUMI, Michael Kors, Montblanc, Calvin Klein, and POLO Ralph Lauren where you can buy both essentials and high-end goods. At the airport, Cuban Crafters offers boutique cigars, humidors, and accessories. Miami-themed presents are available at Miami Gifts To Go, the Miami Heat Store, and the Miami Marlins Store. 

A last-minute pair of sunglasses may be purchased at Sunglass Hut, while Books & Books, a locally owned bookstore, has a selection of books. There is a spa called Xpress Spa where you may receive manicures, pedicures, or a soothing massage if you'd like to be treated rather than spend your free time shopping at the airport.

Charging Stations and Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available for free throughout the airport's indoor spaces at Miami International Airport. All of the concourses and gates have charging stations as well.

Facilities & Amenities

The Miami airport, for instance, provides an Airport Instruction and Readiness program that gives travelers with disabilities the chance to rehearse the entire travel experience in a safe setting. This program is designed for those with cognitive or developmental problems, such as autism.

In Concourse E, next to Gate 5, there is a playground that is also reachable from Concourse D.

There is a yoga space at Terminal H that comes with free mats.

What to Do During a Layover?

It will take at least five hours to see some of Miami's attractions and return in time for your flight if you wish to leave the airport during a stopover. You may either travel downtown to check out some of the museums or try one of the city's top restaurants, or you can catch the Miami Beach bus to South Beach for a quick supper by the beach. 

Wynwood, one of Miami's most well-liked districts with vibrant murals and trendy eateries, clubs, and boutiques, is only twenty minutes away by taxi. Check out the baggage cloakroom, which is on level two of terminal E, to keep your bags.

If you don't have time to leave the airport, you may make the most of your stopover by searching for the several Instagram-worthy murals sprinkled around MIA, such as the well-known 'Peace & Love flower wall' in Terminal D.

Airport Lounges

There are a few upscale lounges in the Miami Airport where a day pass may be purchased. Passes are available at the Club America in Concourse F and the Avianca VIP Lounge in Concourse J.

For military personnel who are either serving or have retired, Concourse E has a military lounge.

There are three Admirals Club lounges at this American Airlines hub, including one that rewards program members may visit.

The Miami International Airport Hotel, situated in Concourse E, allows guests who have an overnight stopover to sleep all night without leaving the airport.
